The ClearVue DIY Roof Lantern Blind is suitable for individuals who are competent DIY’ers/Self Builders or ask your local builder; tradesman or handyman to do the job. You may also find a reputable freelance blinds installer who can easily fit the blind. Obviously the more you do yourself, the more you will save.
We have made the process of measuring and fitting the ClearVue Roof Lantern Blind as easy as possible for someone who is competent at working with basic tools. We provide a video on how to install the blind together with step-by-step instructions.
The ClearVue Roof Lantern Blind is wire free up to sizes 1.4m wide x 2.0m length and 1.2m wide and 3m length. This allows for an uninterrupted view of your lantern without the need support for wires or cords across the width of the lantern. The mechanism and wires for the blind are concealed within a robust frame at the edge of the fabric which has pre-drilled holes where fixings are drilled into the recess of the lantern. There are 2 discreet cords offset at the edge of the fabric (15 mm and 35 mm each side of the fabric).
Oakhurst’s ClearVue Roof Lantern Blind has 2 wires only evenly spaced, approximately 1/3rd and 1/3rd across the width of the blind, which look discreet and allowing for a clearer view of your lantern. Allow 2 wires for blind sizes over 1.5m wide and 2.0m length or over 1.2m wide and 3.0m length.
Other companies offering a self-fit option generally have 4 wires across the middle width of lantern blind with 3 wires to the left and right side of the blind which clutters your view of the lantern.
The ClearVue Roof Lantern Blind has been developed ‘in-house’ by Oakhurst Blinds and is manufactured by our experts at our facility in Wiltshire. We are manufacturers primarily and have been established over 30 years, manufacturing conservatory blinds and complex shapes and are specialist blinds experts. The ClearVue Lantern Blind has been developed following demand from our customers to also offer for self-measure and installation as well as our full service – sales/make/fit model.
It depends on the size of the blind. We recommend 2 people to install the ClearVue Lantern Blind to ensure accurate and level fixing of the frame and blind. Two people, once fully briefed with the instructions should install the blind within 1 to 2 hours. If you’re fitting to a small roof lantern no more than 1.2m wide x 1.5m length, a competent installer could fit themselves after briefing themselves thoroughly with the instructions. We highly recommend, that anyone installing the blind should take time to fully brief themselves before fitting, check all components and blind, ensure all tools are available to hand. It is essential that you ensure drill holes are marked to frame measurements prior to drilling. As with all products that are flat packed, you achieve a finer finish if you check, re-check and take your time.
Once we have received your confirmed measurements following your order, we will proceed ordering the fabric and electric motors immediately. The blind is a made to measure product, manufactured to your specifications. We are therefore unable to cancel once we have accepted your confirmed measurements and the manufacturing process has been implemented and in production. However, if you are at all unsure of your measurements and wish to re-submit your measurements again, you can telephone us within 24 hours of the the confirmed measurements being processed. We will take new measurements (in writing only) to make amendments to the productions drawings. Once production has commenced we cannot amend the measurements as fabric and rail has been cut. Changes after 24 hours may incur additional charges.
We have taken extra care with detailed instructions and step by step videos for measuring and install of the blind. If either yourself or your installer partner finds the blind does not fit, you will need to double check the measurements you gave us and the measurements of the blind. You will find with your blind the manufacturing measurements as we make an adjustment of 5mm from your recess sizes to ensure the blind fits within the frame. It is essential you double check your measurements prior to placing the order to avoid the blind not fitting correctly. Make sure you check the width and length you input into the order form and check against your notes making sure you input the narrowest width and length. For your convenience we also put with the blind, the manufacturing measurements and blind size into the packaging with the blind. We have comprehensive quality control procedures to avoid manufacturing errors. You will need to provide photographic evidence of errors incurred prior to returning the goods. If we have made an error, please telephone us and we will plan to have the blind returned to the factory to be checked.
On a regular run of opening and closing the blind twice per day, the battery motor will last 5 years and longer if the blind is treated well. All our products are Somfy and are guaranteed for 5 years. You’ll need to recharge your lithium-ion batteries from time to time and you have a solar panel as part of the package to top the batteries up in the summer months. A charger is available to charge the batteries and motor as required when the solar panel is not so powerful in the winter months.
We do not supply screws and rawl plugs with the blind because each lantern has been installed to a different frame i.e wood, aluminium, brick or plasterboard. You will need to identify the type of frame the blind is to be attached to and supply the correct screws and raw plugs.
